I'm a close to 5 day/week Emtb rider. 18 to 30 miles per ride. My wife observes my OCD... Obsessive Cycling Desire....
Been using the Fat Jack pants through the winter without a second layer even into the teens many days and it handles it perfectly. Now that it's summer here I've been using the pants when the temps are in the 80's because it helps with protection from the deer ticks, etc....and they still are great and in no way overly warm. Hence the "how did they do it". Such amazing comfort. Not too stiff and yet light enough to feel totally at home in these pants even after the rides. The fit is perfect in length/leg width and waist. Size large....I'm 6 ft/172 lbs. The durability is excellent and I've been through so much crazy terrain and multiple slides/falls and brushes with logs/trees etc. A great combo of comfort and durability. And...they actually look really good.
I use either the one hour or the 2 hour underliner from CR as well. Perfect combo. It would be easy to layer these because there is room if you need to and yet the breathability is excellent and pockets are multi functional for carrying stuff or as venting.
I typically do not write reviews but I always appreciate when others write informative reviews that help me decide.....I guess it's my turn to share the good news. These pants rock!
I love these pants, and I now own three pairs (two black and one navy). I wear them all the time, on the bike and off. They are about an inch too long in the inseam for me (even considering the extra length you want while pedaling), but obviously we aren't all shaped the same so that would be hard for you to change without tailoring services.
Because I already had another pair of perfectly functional riding pants, I was poised to send these back; but decided to slip them on for comparison. They stayed on; and I haven't used the other pants since. I like these pants a lot. They fit just right (34 and true to size), are well designed, and are of good quality. They are also not too bulky; and I expect I can use them for 3 seasons.
Just bought my second pair of fat jacks after shrinking out of my previous pair. The fit and finish is great, and their magically cut so they don’t get snagged on stuff despite feeling roomy. Phones and keys go great in the zip pockets and seem to disappear when you’re riding, Perfect weight for 15F-40F winter rides. Add a belt to keep em up and enjoy!
