Tucked into the red rock beauty of Sedona, the Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition (VVCC) is doing more than just riding trails, they’re building them, protecting access, and creating a vibrant community of cyclists across the Verde Valley. With over 300 active members, VVCC is currently focused on major projects like the Turkey Creek Trail System and ongoing work in Blowout Wash, all while rallying volunteers, hosting rides, and growing the local scene. We got to team up with them at the Sedona MTB Festival for a community ride and a little trail magic and we’re already looking forward to what’s next. We had the chance to connect with Mike Coyne from VVCC to learn more about their mission, current initiatives, and the ways people can get involved, including the Turkey Creek Trail Fundraiser and volunteer opportunities.
Q&A
What is the organization’s mission and who do you serve?
The mission of the VVCC is to advocate for Verde Valley cyclists by providing memorable, safe riding experiences while preserving and expanding biking access through partnerships.
How does Club Ride support the organization? What is our history together?
This year's Sedona Mountain Bike Festival was the inaugural collaboration between VVCC and Club Ride. Club Ride sponsored a group ride at the festival led by VVCC members Mike Coyne and Jan Schmidt. Club Ride provided full ride kits to the leaders and raffled off a full kit to one of the ride participants. All others on the ride recieved Club Ride socks.
We would welcome more opportunities to collaborate with CR. We have over 300 members, and we’re focused on growing our membership, the funding & construction of the new Turkey Creek trail system and ongoing maintenance of the Red Rock Ranger District.
What are the most recent campaigns and/or fundraising needs of the organization?
We are currently busy trying to help fund and construct a new trail system in Sedona- the Turkey Creek Trail system.
Additionally we are working on completing another epic trail system (Blowout Wash) in Clarkdale and Cottonwood
