BEST TRAILS

Vasa Singletrack

A Traverse City classic, the Vasa Singletrack offers 12 miles of flowy, rolling terrain perfect for all skill levels. Beyond the marked trails, there are over 100+ miles of unmarked singletrack accessible from the Vasa Singletrack, the Vasa Pathway, and Sand Lakes Quiet Area. These hidden gems aren’t marked due to state regulations, but they’re a treasure trove of great trails. The best way to find and link these sections is by using Trailforks or Strava, making the Vasa system a playground for riders who love a mix of structure and adventure. It's close to town, so you can easily knock out a loop and be back in time for lunch and a beer.

Palmer Woods

This relatively new addition to the local trail scene is located about 40 minutes west of Traverse City, near Glen Arbor. Palmer Woods is a singletrack playground designed with mountain bikers in mind. The trails feature expertly built flow lines, berms, and jump options that’ll put a grin on your face. It’s a bit of a drive, but the ride and stunning views of the surrounding forest are well worth it.

About 30 minutes outside of Traverse City in Bellaire, the Glacial Hills Pathway is a trail system that’s all about flow. With 31 miles of buttery singletrack, it’s perfect for riders looking for smooth climbs and fast, sweeping descents. The trails are well-marked, making it easy to customize your ride based on how much time or energy you’ve got. It’s a must-ride spot if you’re in the area.

Boardman River / Ottaway Trail

If you’re looking for an easy escape just outside of town, the Boardman River/Ottaway Trail delivers a mix of scenic singletrack and chill riverside riding. This trail system winds along the Boardman River, offering plenty of flowing sections, gentle climbs, and views of the surrounding woods and water. It’s less technical than other nearby trails, making it a great option for riders of all skill levels.
