men's Packing List

By a Club Rider going on a long ride

My coworker and I are stoked to experience one of Western Spirit’s guided trips in the Mountain West this week. Western Spirit provides fully guided and supported bike trips around the country, so you can focus on the ride, scenery, and experience without worrying about all the other stuff. We’ll be on the Telluride to Durango 5-day trip. Check it out here!

Another part of the trip I won’t be worrying about? My clothing. Club Ride’s assortment of gear keeps me comfortable all day long… even when the forecast is in the 90s and some of the climbs hit 12,000 feet. Here’s most of the gear I’m bringing for this trip:

On-the-Bike Clothing

  • Mountain Surf Shorts (10") – My workhorse shorts. Light, stretchy, and quick-dry. They’ve been through just about every ride scenario I’ve thrown at them.

  • Rider Shorts (9") – Yes, they’re a little shorter, but trust me, they’re awesome. The elastic waistband and laser-cut breathability holes in the crotch and back make these a must on most rides.

  • Helios Sun Hoody – If there’s even a chance of big sun exposure, this goes in the pack. Weighs nothing and saves my skin every time.

  • Motive Shirt – When I saw the temps, this was the first thing I grabbed. The perforated construction breathes like no other shirt I’ve ever owned.

  • Quest Shirt – Commonly overlooked in t. he Club Ride line-up, but with full-length side vents, it’s a great shirt for longer rides.

Camp + Off-Bike Layers

  • Shaka Flannel – Nothing beats pulling this on when the sun drops. Soft, warm, and somehow makes instant coffee taste better.

  • Cog Tee – The kind of shirt you end up wearing three days in a row without realizing it.

  • Rider Pants – Perfect for a trip like this. Lightweight, super comfortable, and pack down to nothing.

Other Essentials

Chamois Butt’r – Learned the hard way not to skip this on long rides.

Chacos – Who let the dogs out? Me. ASAP after the ride. Bonus: when temps drop, they turn into “sockos.”

X-Wind Jacket – Mountain winds don’t care what the forecast said. Packs into its own pocket, so it’s not a pain when you don’t need it.

Beanie – Because 90 and sunny can turn chilly fast when the sun drops behind the mountains.

RECAP

The stoke is high and so are the temps. You need gear that keeps you comfortable in every condition but doesn’t weigh you down or take up all the space in your duffel. Club Ride checks all those boxes while also using sustainable materials whenever possible. In my opinion, that makes their gear perfect for a week-long trip, a day-long adventure, or just an hour-long rip.
